The brief:

Austral Fisheries sought to be on the leading edge of sustainability and was looking for its next brand differentiator as well as to protect itself from activist attacks. To achieve this, Austral Fisheries requested a social licence ‘health-check’ to better understand risks and opportunities to enhance its resilience in the face of uncertain times.

The result:

Futureye’s assessment identified threats to Austral Fisheries social licence to operate which had not been considered in previous risk assessments and provided strategic direction in how to mitigate them. Futureye’s workshop sparked constructive debate between key executives as they considered the issues, approaches and solutions from a new perspective. Futureye created a maturity analysis of climate issues to develop the world’s first carbon neutral fish ahead of the curve which won Austral a thirteen percent premium for tender on the open market. Austral worked closely with ENGOs and international governments to combat illegal fishing of Patagonian toothfish and now there are zero illegal operations. In 2017, Austral received the prestigious Banksia Foundation Small to Medium Sustainability Leadership Award for seafood that is sustainable, healthy and carbon neutral.
