About

Tania left her position of Vice-President, Media and Corporate Communications at BHP Billiton in 2008 after a career in issues management and stakeholder relations.  During her six years at BHP Billiton she led the media relations and communications around the takeover of WMC Resources and the ultimately abandoned takeover of Rio Tinto.  She also led the media relations in respect to BHP Billiton’s role in the Oil for Food Inquiry, as well as having responsibility for the Chairman and Chief Executive’s preparation for AGM and all other issues management.
In the previous 20 years, Tania led public affairs, media relations and communications teams at WMC Resources, Tourism Victoria, the Office of the Premier of Victoria, and as a consultant with Gavin Anderson and Kortlang, having started her career as a journalist.  As a consultant, she managed Virgin’s entry to the Australian airline market, led the communications team for the British owners of Loy Yang power station during their protracted industrial dispute, ran media relations for the farmer-backed challenge to break the union hold over Australia’s waterfront, and worked on numerous merger and takeover deals.

She is currently a director of Tasracing, the Tasmanian Government’s racing authority, and is on the board of the Festival of Voices as well as pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Tasmania.
